"It's time to stop the war inside of yourself. You're kicking or fighting against the messenger because you don't like the message (pain, dis-ease, etc.)...and what's even more amazing about that is that you are the one who's sending the message! It's not your body's job to change...it's your mind's job. After you do that, your body naturally follows. Always remember that your body is innocent." Lily Cael
Body WorkWe refer to Body Work as anything that is addressing primarily the physical ("matter") side of the equation. While it would seem that we might not endorse that kind of work because we realize the importance of addressing the energy or "cause" rather than the "symptoms" (body), we actually find that there are many valuable body centered therapies. The only reason that we don't focus on them is that their effects are not long-lasting without addressing the thoughts and beliefs that caused the problem.
For example, Lily spent almost twenty years of her life stuggling with (or was that against?) headaches. She went to orthopedic surgeons, emergency rooms, acupuncturists, physical therapists, chiropractors, craniosacral therapists, dietary consultants, biofeedback therapy, rolfers, and etc. (have you been there, done that?) She took pain killers, changed her diet, got massages, learned Reiki, exercised, meditated, took nutritional supplements, learned relaxation techniques, wrote affirmations, attended seminars, took bach flower remedies, and much more. All of these things offered temporary relief - anywhere from a few minutes to perhaps a day or so.If you read Lily's bio you may be asking, why didn't the biofeedback work? That's where she learned that her thoughts can change what's happening in her body, isn't it? Yes, that's true. And yes, biofeedback did work...as a matter of fact, the relaxation processes she learned there provided far greater relief than any of the others combined. You can learn to relax your body, but what's more important is learning about (and shifting) what's making you tense in the first place, like misconceptions, arguing with reality, and limiting beliefs. So, the key here is whether or not the relief is temporary or lasting. And the relief from relaxation, like any of the other technique, was still temporary...she needed to do it again and again in order to keep experiencing relief. And that isn't the way it needs to be.When you use EFT, RET, or The Work of Byron Katie, once you resolve an issue, it's resolved (unless some new aspect shows up, in which case a little more work may be necessary, but it's not "ongoing"). You don't have to do it every hour or day on that issue to keep experiencing relief. And that's the way we think it should be...Bill often utilizes Touch for Health and mineral/nutritional supplements when working with his clients when it seems like they would provide relief and/or support to the client's body, which will in turn make it easier to shift mentally/emotionally. Lily will often incorporate relaxation processes and/or assist clients with learning biofeedback (see Item #2, Meditation and Relaxation, on the Freebies and Links page) if desired, to provide a soothing backdrop from which to work mentally and emotionally. So, by all means, get some temporary relief for your symptoms wherever you find it. It can make a huge difference to feel a little better, even if only temporarily. But just be sure to also utilize a tool that will help you resolve the cause...your life will be so much more pleasurable when you do. And if you think you'd like to experience the accelerated benefits or additional insight of working with a coach, give us a call...you have nothing to lose because if you don't shift, your session is free!
